4 DAYS WALKING SAFARI, NGORONGORO CRATER & CULTURE
Break up your Northern Tanzania safari by spending a few days’ journey. You’ll see parts of the country, landscapes and people that other travelers never do, slowing down and really immersing yourself in this vibrant Maasai landscape. There are no roads where you are travelling, and you will have the chance to spend some time visiting one of the small Maasai villages that other safari-goers don’t reach. This genuine experience is increasingly hard to find in this region of Tanzania, where so many cultural villages are highly commercialized. The walk will take several days, passing around the lush forested slopes of the Olmoti Crater and the northern side of the Ngorongoro Crater, reaching the Seneto road.

DAY 1; ARRIVE AT HIGHLAND
Earlier in the morning you will visit the Ngorongoro Crater and enjoy other activities in the region, located on the side of the Olmoti Crater in the Ngorongoro Highlands. Enjoy an afternoon relaxing and enjoying views over the rolling Maasai land from the balcony of your unique geodesic dome tent. Your Wayo walking safari guide will meet you this evening to discuss the next days of walking and enjoy a delicious dinner and a good night’s sleep before your adventure begins the next day. Overnight and dinner at the hotel.

DAY 2; WALKING SAFARI
Wake before sunrise for an early breakfast and set off on foot around one of the cattle trails that leads around the edge of the Olmoti Crater. It is possible to drive a short section of this, if you would prefer a less strenuous day (please advise at point of booking). Once you have rounded the crater, you will walk through the rolling grassy plains broken up by small Maasai villages and herdsmen with their iconic red shukas wrapped around their shoulders to keep away the cold in the early mornings. DAY 3: CULTURAL VISIT
It is an early start to the day, setting off after breakfast at sunrise, continuing your walk around the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater and taking in some spectacular and unspoilt views of this iconic, dormant volcano. The early mornings here are particularly special, watching as the mist burns away and the warmth of the sun arrives — we recommend keeping your camera handy! The terrain varies as you walk, from acacia woodland to highland montane forest. You will walk through a traditional Maasai village, stopping with your guide to meet some of the local people and learning a little about Maasai life and culture before you continue your walk. Overnight and dinner at the hotel

DAY 4: NGORONGORO CRATER
Enjoy another spectacular day walking on and sometimes inside the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. You will notice the terrain gets drier as you move into the rain shadow of the crater, all while enjoying incredible and uninterrupted views of the crater floor. The walk will finish at around midday at the Seneto descent road on the western side of the Ngorongoro Crater, where the adventure concludes and you will bid your walking guide farewell. You will then be transferred to Airport for your home flight.
